Undergraduate Academic Petitions

Academic petitions are required in order to transfer credits, add a class after the add/drop period, request a leave of absence, and more (see the complete list below). There are two ways to access the Undergraduate Academic Petition system:

  • Visit Academic Petition or through Banner Self Service
    • Log into MyCharlotte
    • Select Banner Self Service
    • Select Students Services/Student Accounts

The Undergraduate Academic Petition system is available only to active undergraduate students at UNC Charlotte. Inactive students are required to file a paper-based Academic Petition. This form may be downloaded from our website.

Late AddSelect this option to request a Late Add for the selected term. In some cases, a financial balance may delay the processing of a Late Add request.Undergraduate Registration
Late WithdrawalSelect this option to request a late partial or full withdrawal from courses in the selected term.

Academic Petitions for Late Withdrawal are used when students 1) wish to withdraw from a previous semester, 2) wish to request that courses they have already self-withdrawn from be converted to a Withdrawal with Extenuating Circumstances (the student must demonstrate an extenuating circumstance), or 3) after the withdrawal deadlines have passed. Students have one calendar year from the semester in which they took the class to submit an Academic Petition for a late withdrawal.

This petition type is also used to request a Full Withdrawal with Extenuating Circumstances only when the Student Assistance & Support Services (SASS) deadline has passed.

Note: It is the student’s responsibility to include supporting documentation.
Withdrawal and Cancellation of Enrollment
Military Leave of AbsenceThis petition is for current students who have been called to active duty and their active service is expected to last more than one semester. If the student’s active duty impacts their current term registration, please advise them to consult with Student Assistance & Success Services (SASS) or view this policy for more details.

To request, students must submit their active duty orders to the Office of the Registrar within the petition and prior to their intended absence. Please redact the SSN before uploading. Orders must include the student’s name, as well as dates of departure and return. If the orders do not include the student’s name, the Office of the Registrar must receive communication from the Commanding Officer verifying the student’s name and the validity of the orders. We are unable to approve retroactively.

The Office of the Registrar, upon approval, will ensure that the student’s status remains active for the duration of their time away. This status is available for up to three (3) years of service OR five (5) years of service if convalescing due to injuries sustained during their service.

When the student is ready to return to Charlotte, they need to:
– notify the Office of the Registrar
– complete a Campus Safety Review (CSR)
– meet with their academic advisor
– register when their registration time becomes availableIf any holds remain from prior terms, registration could be delayed.

This petition will enable students to bypass the readmission application and the associated application fee.

During this time away, students will retain their NinerNet credentials and Charlotte email. This ensures that students can officially notify the Office of the Registrar when they are ready to return to Charlotte or to ask questions while away.
